Did Kylo Ren really die?

I do not think that Kylo Ren really died, because Rey did not finish him off. While critics may say diffrent because starkiller base exploded while he was on it, I think that Snoke or some other first order guy came in and saved him. My supporting evidence is; this movie used a ton of the original, so why not have the "Emperor" come save him, just like he did Anakin in Revenge of the Sith.
